Make a Joyful Noise!
Immanuel's music program is considered one of the church's greatest assets. Jimmy Hicks, our minister of music and an expert in music education, performance and theater, works with the rector to coordinate Sunday music selections with the readings, Gospel, sermon topics and church season.
The congregation sings from The Hymnal, Lift Every Voice and Sing, Songs for the Cycle and Gather. Each service is accompanied by organ or piano music. A flute is often played during the Eucharist, and other instruments are occasionally played for special services.
The choir meets on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., from September to June, to prepare anthems and psalms that are sung during the 11 a.m. service. New members are always welcome. For additional information about participating in this wonderful ministry, please contact Jimmy.
Immanuel also presents “Music In The Old Church,” a popular choral concert series offered as an outreach ministry to the greater RIchmond community. The concert is held in the fall, and offers a mixture of sacred and secular music. Talented singers and musicians from dozens of churches throughout the Richmond area participate along with professional artists and special guests. Performances are offered at a variety of locations.
